Fatal Crash In LaGrange County Friday Claims The Life Of A Teen

TOPEKA, IN - Authorities in LaGrange County are investigating a fatal car crash that happened Friday.

The incident took place at the intersection of State Road 5 and County Road 700 South near Topeka.

According to a police report, a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Jordan Collyer, age 17 of Topeka, was traveling southbound on State Road 5. Collyer turned in front of an oncoming Ford Fusion being driven by Carli Bushong, age 31 of Ligonier.

Collyer’s vehicle was struck in the passenger side. Three teens from his vehicle went to area Parkview Hospitals, while one occupant in his vehicle was flown to PRMC by Samaritan. The teen passenger in Collyer’s vehicle that was flown out passed away from injuries sustained in the crash.

The deceased victim has been identified as Lybie Miller, age 13, of Ligonier. She was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Bushong and a baby from the Fusion were transported to PRMC for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation by the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office.

Assisting the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department at the scene was the Topeka Marshals Office, Topeka Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Wolcottville Police Department, and the Parkview Samaritan Air Crew.
