Sentence Given To Sturgis Man In Branch County
Friday, March 31, 2023

COLDWATER, MI – A Sturgis man has been sentenced for crimes he committed in Branch County in the fall of 2021.

Branch County Circuit Court officials say 27 year old Dylan Brand was sentenced Thursday morning to a term of 14 to 50 years in prison, after he plead guilty to armed robbery. With the plea, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office agreed to dismiss charges of first degree home invasion and felony firearms, in addition to a habitual offender sentencing enhancer.

Brand was arrested October 21, 2021 following an incident that happened in Bronson Township. The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says they were contacted by a woman who said she was robbed in her home at gun point by a man, who made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim gave deputies a description of the suspect and the vehicle he drove off in. Officers spotted Brand and pursued him into St. Joseph County and the City of Sturgis, where he got out of the car and ran away. The Sturgis Police and the Michigan State Police K-9 Unit were called in and were able to locate Brand and take him into custody. They also found the handgun he allegedly used in the robbery.

Brand’s sentence in Branch County is going to run concurrently to the 17 year sentence he was given in St. Joseph County, where he was convicted of third degree fleeing and eluding; assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer and felony firearm.
