Dog Shooting Under Investigation By Branch County

QUINCY, MI – Authorities are looking into a situation where a dog was shot in Quincy Township by law enforcement.

The Branch County Sheriff’s Department said their deputies along with the Coldwater Police Department were helping the Quincy Police Department execute a search warrant on Sunday morning around 9:15 a.m.

The officers came into the house and were met by an aggressive dog that bit one of the officers in the hand. They attempted to subdue and restrain the dog but were unsuccessful resulting in the dog being shot.

The officer who was attacked is reportedly in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

It is not yet known which department’s officer shot the dog. Assisting at the scene were the Quincy Fire Department, The Branch County Reserve Unit and the Life Care Ambulance.

The shooting remains under investigation by both the Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Coldwater Police.
