Indiana Couple Dies In Plane Crash In Ludington Michigan

LUDINGTON, Mich. — A Northeast Indiana couple, and their two dogs, died Sunday, November 26 following a plane crash near the Mason County Airport.

Michigan State Police from Hart Post are investigating a fatal plane crash that took place at 10 a.m. involving a single-engine Socata TBM-700 plane.

Troopers said the fixed-wing plane caught fire and crashed just after it took off from the Mason County Airport.

"A 43-year-old female, 60-year-old male, and their two dogs, all from Indiana, were killed in the crash. The couple were visiting family in the Ludington area. The cause of the crash in unknown," said a press release from the MSP Hart Post.

The names of the victims have not officially been released by the Michigan State Police Hart Post, the Mason County Sheriff's Department or the Ludington City Police Department.

The Pere Marquette Township Fire Department’s Facebook page said the plane crashed outside the airport fence, located on Meyers Road off of Rasmussen Road.

The fire department noted the plane was not easy to reach and they needed off-road vehicles in order to reach the accident.

The Federal Aviation Administration was on scene and the NTSB is expected to arrive on Monday to assist in the investigation.

MSP was assisted by the Mason County Sheriff's Office, Life EMS, Ludington Fire, Hamlin Township Fire, and Pere Marquette Twp. Fire.
