STEUBEN COUNTY – A police chase that began in Branch County ended in Steuben County on the morning of Saturday, November 25.

Kevin Wayne Elliott, 53, of Allen, Michigan was arrested after leading officers across two states on a police chase.

Authorities state the pursuit started on Sprague Road at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Elliott continued on roads near Coldwater Lake and the Bella Vista Golf Course before heading south into Indiana on Fremont Road.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office then provided assistance to Branch County Sheriff’s deputies.

Branch County Central Dispatch indicated that the suspect vehicle had no license plates and was partially disabled by stop sticks.

The suspect vehicle entered Indiana with two tires deflated and struck stop sticks near County Road 700 North which deflated another tire on the vehicle.

The pursuit continued south into and through the town of Fremont on State Road 827 at speeds between 40 and 55 mph.

Another set of stop sticks were then deployed on 827 near County Road 300 North, but were missed by the suspect.

The suspect driver eventually stopped the vehicle in the 2400 block of North County Road 200 West and fled northeast from the vehicle on foot.

A Steuben County Sheriff’s K-9 unit was deployed and was able to apprehend Elliott.

Authorities said Elliott sustained a dog bite from K-9 Klara during the arrest and was treated at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital.

During the apprehension, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office say a small amount of suspected methamphetamine was allegedly found in Elliott’s possession.

Once medically cleared, Elliott was booked into the Steuben County jail on two charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Methamphetamine. He was held in lieu of a $3,000 bond.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be sought by the Branch County Sheriff’s Office.
