(DEKALB COUNTY) -A one vehicle roll over accident claimed the life of two people.
DeKalb County Sheriff Brady Thomas says his department was called to I-69 near the 336 Mile Marker just before 12:30 PM Friday. Deputies determined that 55 year old Dennis Corolla of New Albany was driving his vehicle north when for an unknown reason it went off the road and drove into the grass median.
Corolla over-corrected his steering and came back into the passing lane where he lost control. The vehicle fish-tailed and rolled an unknown number of times on the interstate before re-entering the grass median to the West. The auto then struck the cable barrier median and rolled over that before coming to rest in the southbound median on the passenger side.
Corolla was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 62 year old Janice Walthall of New Albany, was ejected from the vehicle. First responders and Good Samaritans performed life saving measures, but Walthall was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Assisting deputies were the Waterloo and Ashley Police and Fire Departments, Indiana State Police and Parkview EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
