(LAGRANGE) – LaGrange County authorities would like to remind county residents to be careful during these dry conditions.

LaGrange County Emergency Management Director Bill Morr, Sheriff Tracy Harker, the LaGrange County Commission and the County Fire Chiefs say during dry conditions, seemingly harmless actions such as driving over or parking on dry grass or dropping a lit cigarette on the ground could cause a sizable fire.

Open burning is not the only cause of fires. Campfires are the most commonly recognized cause for wildfires, but many other daily activities may also be responsible. Everyone needs to use extra caution right now when working with fire and any objects that could create sparks.

Continuing dry conditions have prompted some counties to issue burn bans in an effort to prevent wildfires. Morr says currently, there is not a burn ban in LaGrange County. He says County authorities would like to encourage residents to use common sense and be careful during the dry season.
