(BRONSON) – Bronson residents will soon have the opportunity to share their thoughts on a topic that has been talked about for almost two years.

The Bronson Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing October 21 as they seek input from the community on whether or not recreational marijuana businesses should be allowed in Bronson.

The matter has been discussed in Bronson for 18 months, but with no action taken. During their meeting August 12, the Bronson City Commission was presented with materials they had requested, including maps showing property in the Bronson commercial and industrial areas with buffers of 200, 500 and 1,000 feet for possible marijuana based businesses.

During the meeting, Bronson Mayor Matt Watkins gave his thoughts on what should be done next. ...... {LISTEN}.

Voters in Michigan approved legalizing recreational marijuana in November 2018. Shortly after the vote, Bronson decided to not allow for marijuana based businesses to be able to operate inside the City limits. Under the law, communities who opted out at that time can decide to opt in anytime they want.

The public hearing on October 21 will be at Bronson City Hall, starting at 4 PM.

Public comments may also be submitted in writing to Bronson City Hall, or by e-mailing admin@bronson-mi.com.
