(INDIANAPOLS) - Gov. Mike Braun is crediting aggressive law enforcement efforts with reducing drug activity and improving traffic safety across Indiana in 2025. According to the governor's office, the Indiana State Police seized 1,389 pounds of cocaine and more than 80 pounds of opioids last year. Opioid seizures were up 117% compared to 2024, a surge the administration says helped drive a 60% drop in statewide overdose deaths.

Traffic enforcement also ramped up. Arrests for operating while intoxicated increased by 17% in 2025, with state police recording 3,985 OWI cases. The governor's office said the higher arrest totals likely prevented hundreds of impaired-driving crashes.

Fatal crashes across the state declined as well, dropping by about 8% to 737 incidents in 2025. "One of our top priorities is to ensure Hoosiers have a safe place to raise their families," Braun said in a statement. "Thanks to the incredible work of the Indiana State Police, who have gone above and beyond to remove drugs from the streets and impaired drivers from the roads, Indiana is a safer place."

State officials emphasized that coordinated efforts between Indiana State Police and local law enforcement agencies were central to the gains, calling the results a key step toward strengthening public safety statewide.
