(STURGIS) - Andrew Kuk has resigned as Sturgis City Manager.

The announcement came Wednesday following a closed session during the City Commission meeting. Kuk and the Commission agreed to a mutual separation following the announcement of his resignation.

Kuk has served as City Manager since April 2023, following almost 15 years as the Assistant City Manager, and a brief stint as Interim City Manager. Kuk started with the City as an intern while attending Western Michigan University.

Kuk shared that the City of Sturgis has been a part of his life for over 18 years and it has been his honor to serve the community. Kuk says he is proud of his work over that time and cannot thank the many City staff and Commissioners he has worked with enough for the opportunity to grow as a professional and a person.

Kuk indicated the resignation decision comes following considerable reflection on his personal situation and the goals of the Commission. He says personally this separation allows him the opportunity to make some needed changes and pursue other family priorities, and that a better work-life balance and health focus were among those priorities.

Kuk says he believes that every City Commission should have a City Manager who shares their vision and desired management style. He thinks this change will facilitate that. (LISTEN ABOVE).

In a media release, the City Commission says they thank Andrew for his time with the City, and they now need to stay focused on the positive and find the next leader to best continue to grow and develop the City of Sturgis.

Kuk says he will stay on as City Manager until July 24.

The Commission made no announcement Wednesday on what their next steps will be to find a new City Manager.
