(DEKALB COUNTY) - 40 dogs have been removed from a DeKalb County home as part of an animal neglect investigation.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says it received an anonymous tip on April 27 about possible animal neglect.
An animal control officer responded to the home and began an investigation. During the search, authorities found approximately 40 dogs inside the residence.
The sheriff's office says the dogs were confined in cages throughout multiple rooms and were found in unsanitary conditions, including heavy buildup of feces and urine.
All of the dogs were removed from the home and taken to area animal shelters for care.
The case remains under investigation and is expected to be submitted to the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office in the coming days.
Additional information may be released later.
