(INDIANAPOLIS) - A national Democratic Party organization has identified 11 Indiana House races as priorities in its effort to break the Republican supermajority in the Indiana House of Representatives, Indiana Capital Chronicle reports.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced Tuesday it will focus on six Republican-held districts it hopes to flip and five Democratic-held districts it aims to defend.

Republicans currently hold a 70-30 majority in the Indiana House. Democrats would need to gain four seats in the November election to end the two-thirds supermajority Republicans have maintained since 2012.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said it plans to provide candidates with support for data analysis, research, polling, advertising and direct voter outreach.

Among the Republican-held seats targeted by Democrats are districts represented by Rep. Becky Cash of Zionsville, Rep. Danny Lopez of Carmel and Rep. Hunter Smith of Zionsville. Cash won reelection in 2024 by 64 votes out of more than 37,000 cast.

The Democratic group is also prioritizing defense of several Democratic-held seats, including those represented by Rep. Randy Novak of Michigan City, Rep. Chuck Moseley of Portage and Rep. Wendy Dant Chesser of Jeffersonville.

Another targeted race is a Bloomington-area district represented by Rep. Dave Hall, R-Norman. Hall won reelection in 2024 with 51% of the vote and faces Democrat Amy Huffman Oliver in November.

DLCC President Heather Williams said Indiana Democrats are "within striking distance" of ending the Republican supermajority, while House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta said the party is seeking to end what he called the Republicans' "unchecked power" in state government.
