(INDIANAPOLIS) - Former Indiana 5th Congressional District candidate Max Engling has announced a bid for Indiana secretary of state, adding another candidate to the Republican contest for the statewide office.

Engling, who challenged U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz in the 2026 Republican primary for Congress, announced his candidacy Wednesday. He joins a Republican field that already includes incumbent Secretary of State Diego Morales, Knox County Clerk David Shelton and businesswoman Jamie Reitenour.

The Republican nominee will be selected at the Indiana Republican Party's state convention on June 20 rather than through a primary election.

Indiana's secretary of state serves as the state's chief elections officer and oversees election administration, business services and securities regulation.

Morales is seeking a second term in office. Democrats are expected to choose between Beau Bayh and Blythe Potter for their nomination, while Libertarian candidate Lauri Shillings has already secured her party's nomination.

The general election for Indiana secretary of state will be held Nov. 3.
