(ANGOLA) - One of Steuben County's most anticipated summer traditions returns Friday as the Steuben County 4-H Fair gets underway at the fairgrounds on Crooked Lake.

The fair opens Friday evening with opening ceremonies at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Little Miss and Little Mister contests and the popular truck and tractor pulls.

Thousands of visitors are expected throughout the week-long event, which features livestock shows, project exhibits, food vendors, entertainment and activities for all ages. Organizers say vendor participation is at capacity this year.

The fair's exhibit hall will showcase projects created by local 4-H members, including woodworking, sewing, photography, Legos, foods and other projects. Livestock exhibits and competitions will also be featured throughout the week.

Among the major events are Saturday night's rodeo, the Large Animal Supreme Showmanship competition on Wednesday and the annual livestock auction on Thursday.

Ashley Stockwell of the Steuben County 4-H program said the fair represents months of work by local young people.

"It's not just animals," Stockwell said. "There's a variety of things that you can get into."

Stockwell encouraged residents to visit both the exhibit buildings and livestock barns to see the work completed by local 4-H members throughout the year.

The Steuben County 4-H Fair runs through next week at the fairgrounds on the shores of Crooked Lake.
