Coldwater Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase Exceeds 100 mph

COLDWATER, Mich. (WLKI)- A Coldwater man was arrested Wednesday night after authorities say he led deputies on a high-speed chase that exceeded 100 mph.

According to the Branch County Sheriff's Department, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on East Chicago Road at approximately 8:16 p.m.


The driver allegedly refused to stop and continued onto South Fremont Road, prompting deputies to begin a pursuit.


Authorities said the driver later turned onto Dorrance Road, where the vehicle eventually came to a stop. Deputies then took the driver into custody without further incident.

The driver was identified as 46-year-old Steve Burger of Coldwater. He was taken to jail on preliminary charges of fleeing and eluding and operating while intoxicated.


No injuries or property damage were reported in the information released by authorities.


The pursuit remains under investigation. Branch County Central Dispatch and Coldwater Towing assisted deputies during the incident.
