ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- A Garrett man is facing a Level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine charge after Steuben County deputies allegedly found more than 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine hidden in his boot.

Dale E. Swonger, 29, was arrested Sept. 2 at 4 Korners on North Bay View Road in Angola. He was initially taken into custody on an active Level 6 felony fugitive warrant related to an alleged parole violation.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Steuben Superior Court, deputies were called to the restaurant for a well-being check after a man gave Swonger a ride and paid for his meal because of the hot weather. The caller told deputies Swonger later refused to leave, saying he was waiting for another ride.

Court documents say deputies offered Swonger a ride while dispatchers checked his information. After learning he had an active warrant, deputies placed him under arrest.

At the patrol vehicle, Swonger allegedly told deputies he had "a lot of meth" in his boot. Deputies reportedly found 30.23 grams of suspected methamphetamine, along with a digital scale in his pants pocket.

Swonger is charged with Level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
