FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WLKI)- The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer raised more than $1.3 million during this year's Vera Bradley Classic, despite rainy conditions during the event.
Foundation Development Manager Amelia McArdle said supporters continued to show up to help fund breast cancer research.
"At the end of the day, we're here to raise money for breast cancer research. A little rain isn't going to stop that," McArdle said.
The foundation presented a ceremonial check showing the event raised $1,343,448. The Vera Bradley Foundation has worked since 1993 to support breast cancer research and awareness efforts.
McArdle said the organization's sole purpose is to raise funds that can help people diagnosed with breast cancer not only survive, but thrive.
The foundation will continue its awareness efforts October 2 with its annual Turn the Town Pink campaign. About 2,000 pink ribbons are expected to be placed throughout downtown Fort Wayne.
In November, the foundation also plans to hold a healthy breast tissue drive to support the world's only healthy breast tissue repository at its research center in Indianapolis.
