PLEASANT LAKE, Ind. (WLKI)- A Pleasant Lake man faces a Level 6 felony charge after authorities say he entered a school building despite restrictions tied to his status as a serious sex offender.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office arrested 40-year-old Chad Fugate following an incident at Pleasant Lake Montessori School.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Fugate entered the building while dropping off his child. A school resource officer reported the entry violated his registry restrictions.
Fugate later contacted the sheriff's office and admitted entering the building, but said he did not go beyond the first two sets of security doors.
Indiana law prohibits serious sex offenders from entering school property without legal authorization.
The charge is an allegation, and Fugate is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
