Falls are not a normal part of aging, but they are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans One in four older adults over the age of 65 fall every year. Many of these falls are preventable. That’s why Northern Lakes is sponsoring a Fall Prevention Awareness Day, on the first day of Fall, September 22.
The event will be held from 11am-1pm at Terrace Ridge Apartments in Angola. Terrace Ridge is located on 20 West, just before the Interstate 69 exit.
Northern Lakes will have licensed therapists available to do individualized fall risk screens, balance testing and adaptive device(walkers/wheel chairs/canes) adjustments and recommendations.
Nurses from Northern Lakes will be on-site to provide orthostatic blood pressure screens and blood sugar checks and how those values can contribute to an increase risk in falling.
John White RN, the Diabetic Educator from Cameron Hospital will have information for Diabetics and the increased risk of falling the disease presents for older adults.
Lisa Weaver from Cameron Hospital CareLink will be available with information about the CareLink alert system.
Walgreens will provide fall prevention information related to medications.
Northern Lakes will have a complimentary wheelchair and walker wash, to clean and disinfect your adaptive equipment.
