The third annual “National Night Out” picnic & events for the Angola Neighborhood Watch
will be held on Tuesday, August 4th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lion’s Shelter in
Commons Park and at the Independent Order of Oddfellow’s Lodge #180, 501 W. John St.,
Angola, IN. The theme is “Back to the 50’s,” and the public is invited to participate and attend.
Individuals are invited to cruise-into the park beginning at 4:00 p.m. Parking is available
in the lot adjacent to the park stage and in the park. There will be a “Brylcreme Hair Styling
Contest,” a “Hula-Hoop contest,” and a “Back to the 50’s outfit contest.” Prizes will be awarded
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The contests will start around 6:00 p.m. No pre-registration is
Parents and children are invited to go the bottom level of the Independent Order of Oddfellow’s
Lodge to obtain a free children’s i.d. courtesy of Jeremy Stackhouse, New York Life, from 4:00
p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Drive through the upper gates of the lodge (which is located adjacent to
Boomershine Field and park in the lower level parking lot (adjacent to the community garden).
Please bring information such as the medication and other needs of your child.
Everyone is invited to bring a dish to share at the potluck picnic at the Lion’s Shelter, located
adjacent to the children’s playground in Common’s Park. The picnic will begin at 5:00 p.m.
and continue thru the 6:30 p.m. Picnic goers are welcome to bring a salad, main dish, snack
food or other beverages.
Lawn games such as horseshoes and volleyball will occur right next to the Lion’s Shelter in the
park. A d.j. and/or radio station is being sought to help with entertainment. “Over 38.1 million
people in more than 16,520 communities will joint forces on August 4th to promote police-
community partnerships; crime, drug and violence prevention; safety; and neighborhood unity.
ADP is the national sponsor of this event,” according to the National Association of Town Watch
There will be neighborhood block parties in Reddington Heights and Harrington Heights on this
evening as well. Police Chief Stu Hamblen and other neighbors are hosting these events.
