Hoosier State Government Looks To Aid Those To Help Quit Smoking
Tuesday, July 16, 2019

For those who live within the state of Indiana, it is about to become easier to quit smoking.

State Health Commissioner, Dr. Kris Box signed an order on Monday to let people buy Chantix and other smoking-cessation drugs from Indiana pharmacists without needing a prescription. An order that will go into effect on August 1st.

Dr. Box was quoted as saying that the move will help "eliminate financial and time barriers" for Hoosiers who want to quit. Box's order also means women on Medicaid will not have a co-pay for stop-smoking drugs during pregnancy or for up to a year post-partum.

Indiana is the twelfth state to adopt a standing order or policy to allow residents to buy stop-smoking drugs without prescription.
