Monday Night Barn Fire In Batavia Township
Tuesday, March 24, 2020

The Bronson Fire Department was dispatched by Branch County Central Dispatch to 528 West Colon Road in Batavia Township at 8:18PM Monday evening.

It was there that fire crews found a 28' by 32' wood barn that was fully engulfed in flames. The vinyl siding on the residence near the barn was melting, however, quick work from fire crews kept the fire from spreading to the house. Sherwood and Union City fire departments were called for one tanker each. Approximately ten thousand gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire.

The Michigan State Police and Lifecare Ambulance also responded to the scene, however there were no injuries suffered in the blaze.

The barn, with an estimated value of $20,000, and contents, estimated at $10,000, were completely destroyed. Damage to the house is estimated at $5,000. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature, and remains under investigation.
