By: Sheila McCrea - Wednesday, November 4, 2020

PLEASANT LAKE, IN - The Steuben Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call of smoldering corn in a field south of Pleasant Lake.

The fire reportedly started when an area resident lit a trash fire and it ignited a corn field located at Grapevine Road and County Road 225 West. The fire jumped County Road 225 West and into the field to the east, where it quickly spread.

The property is farmed by Stoy Farms.

Steuben Township was assisted by neighboring fire departments from Hudson, Ashley, Salem Center and Hamilton.
