ANGOLA, IN - A pair of raccoons that got into a substation caused havoc for Angola NIPSCO power customers on Friday.

Officials with NIPSCO told our news team that two raccoons were to blame for damages caused to a substation that caused a widespread power outage in the city of Angola. Just before 4:30 PM Friday evening, about 30% of those customers without power had power restored. A spokeswoman with the power company said that another 20% would be restored within the 5 o’clock hour. The remaining 50% could expect power to be restored throughout the evening.

The raccoon is usually nocturnal and omnivorous, eating about 40% invertebrates, 33% plants, and 27% vertebrates. Apparently raccoons, local to the city of Angola, enjoy snacking on power at the local substation.
