ELKHART, IN - A 23-year-old Elkhart man was killed when the motorcycle he was operating struck a pick-up truck.

The collision happened around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday in the area of County Road 27 and County Road 20.

An 80-year-old man was reportedly behind the wheel of the truck when he reportedly began pulling out of a driveway into the road when Jacob Smith, who was on the motorcycle, struck the front driver’s side of the truck.

Police and medics arrived and Smith was given life-saving measures, but he died at the scene.

A 37-year-old Elkhart woman who was a passenger on the motorcycle suffered serious injuries, but was conscious and breathing. She was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

The incident remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
