Waterloo Man Electrocuted After Hitting Utility Pole

DEKALB COUNTY - A Waterloo man was electrocuted after crashing into an utility pole.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office stated Colton Michael Close, 23, of Waterloo was driving eastbound near the 2600 block of C.R. 56 in rural DeKalb County when he approach an "s curve," in the road.

Close failed the navigate the curve and continued straight through the curve causing his vehicle to leave the roadway and strike an electric power pole.

The pole was broken at the base causing the electric wires to fall to the ground.

Close exited his vehicle and while attempting to get to the roadway, was "slightly electrocuted," according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

He was transported to Parkview DeKalb Hospital and treated for burns to both of his ankles and feet.

Alcohol is believed to be factor in the crash.

The DeKalb Co. Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Jackson Fire Department, the Parkview DeKalb EMS, the DeKalb Central Communications, and Riverside Towing.
