NE Indiana Jobless Rates Go Up In January

INDIANAPOLIS – Jobless rates went up around Northeast Indiana during the month of January.

The Department of Workforce Development released the figures, and LaGrange and Noble Counties both saw their unemployment go up 1.1%. LaGrange County rose from 2.2% to 3.3% and Noble County went from 3% to 4.1%.

Steuben and DeKalb Counties had jobless rates increase .9% from December to January. Steuben County saw a jump from 2.2% to 3.1% while DeKalb went up from 2.5% to 3.4%.

Elkhart County saw an increase of .8%, from 3.3% to 4.1%.

Unemployment was also up for some Northeast Indiana cities from December to January. Elkhart increased from 4.8% to 5.2%, which is an increase of .4%. Goshen went up from 3.2% to 4% which is an .8% increase.

The Statewide unemployment for Indiana was 3.5% in January, the same as it was in December.
