Member Of SJC Prosecutor’s Office Killed In Crash

(MENDON TOWNSHIP) – A two vehicle crash claimed the life of a Mendon woman.

St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says just after 8 AM Thursday, deputies were called to two vehicle accident on Silver Street, north of Pinhook Road in Mendon Township.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 24 year old Reading, Michigan man was driving north on Silver Street when he struck a vehicle head on. The driver of the second vehicle has been identified as 45 year old Melissa Hallack of Mendon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hallack was an Assistant Prosecutor with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Reading man was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo to be treated for injuries he sustained in the crash. Bingaman says alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident, and the at fault driver’s name is being withheld, pending results of the continuing investigation.

Assisting deputies were the Mendon and Fabius-Park Fire Departments, the Michigan State Police and Life Care Ambulance.
