(PLEASANT TOWNSHIP) – Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a motorcycle crash that injured two people.

Steuben County Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks says deputies responded to the area of Bayview Road near Lake James Lane 345 just after 10 PM Monday for a report of a motorcycle that crashed. When they arrived, deputies found a female victim laying in the road, who appeared to be unresponsive. A male victim was also laying on the ground near the crashed motorcycle.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a motorcycle driven by 35 year old Dennis Marshall of Auburn was traveling north on Bayview Road and failed to negotiate a curve for an unknown reason. The left side of the undercarriage scraped the roadway, causing the motorcycle to rotate 180 degrees counterclockwise on its axis. The rotation caused a woman on the bike, 24 year old Kaylie Wallen of Auburn to be ejected.

Wallen suffered a possible head injury and was taken by ambulance to a Fort Wayne hospital and is listed in serious condition. Marshall suffered abrasions to the lower part of the body and a head injury. He is in stable condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.

Neither Wallen or Marshall were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The weather was clear and the roadway dry.

Assisting at scene were the Steuben County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, which is handling the investigation; along with the Angola Police and Angola Fire Rescue.
