(UNDATED) – Portions of Southern Michigan and Northern Indiana are under weather advisories starting today.

The National Weather Service says St. Joseph County Michigan and Elkhart County Indiana are under a Winter Weather Advisory, starting at 3 PM Monday and lasting until 10 AM Tuesday.

Lake effect snow is expected with total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches possible. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly so be prepared for rapid changes in the weather, visibility and road conditions.

Plan on slippery road conditions that could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes.

Slow down and use caution while traveling.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Cass County Michigan from 10 AM Monday to 10 AM Tuesday. Heavy lake effect snow is expected with total snow accumulations of between 6 and 9 inches possible.
