Ben Merrick and Jason Welker from the Fremont American Legion Post 257 talk with WLKI's Andy St. John about a huge weekend coming up in Fremont. It is the 10th anniversary of the Tri-State Tip-Up Festival, January 15-18, and the guys have a full schedule of events that help support local veterans and programs like Ramps for Vets.
Here's what's happening:
- Thursday and Friday: We kick things off with a cornhole tournament on Thursday night, followed by the start of the fishing tournament and a big fish and shrimp fry on Friday. If you are feeling lucky, there is also Texas Hold'em with some solid cash payouts.
- Saturday Highlights: This is a big day for the family. There is a Kids' Day fishing derby in the morning with prizes for panfish, plus indoor games and food hosted by the Junior Auxiliary. For dinner, the Legion Riders are firing up the charcoal for their famous steak fry, followed by karaoke to wrap up the night.
- Prizes and Drawings: By the time Sunday rolls around, the Legion will be giving away over $2,200 in prizes and more than 100 different gift cards.
The best part about the Tip-Up Festival is that it is completely open to the public. You do not need to be a member to come eat, fish, or play. It is a great chance to see what the Legion is all about while helping them give back to the veteran community.
