(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance to raise awareness during the CVSA Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative held January 12-16, 2026. The multi-day effort focused on educating commercial drivers, carriers, school bus drivers, law enforcement, and the public on how to recognize the signs of human trafficking and what steps to take when they suspect someone is being victimized.

During the initiative, Indiana State Police troopers inspected 718 commercial motor vehicles and distributed 1,007 wallet cards, decals, and informational brochures from TAT (formerly Truckers Against Trafficking). The campaign also included seven in-person outreach events and six media interviews aimed at expanding public awareness statewide.

Officials emphasized that commercial motor vehicle drivers are often in a unique position to identify trafficking because they frequent locations where exploitation may occur, including truck stops, rest areas, and commercial facilities. State police noted that more than 40 percent of human trafficking cases reported by truck drivers involve minor victims, underscoring the importance of industry-wide training and vigilance.

Anyone with information about a potential trafficking situation is urged to contact the National Human Trafficking Resource Center by calling 1-888-373-7888 or texting 233733. The hotline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
