(STEUBEN COUNTY) - Steuben County has returned to an Orange, or Watch-level, travel advisory as hazardous winter conditions continue to impact the area.

An Orange Travel Watch means conditions are threatening to public safety. Officials recommend only essential travel, such as commuting to and from work or emergency situations. During a Watch advisory, businesses, schools, government agencies, and other organizations are encouraged to implement their emergency action plans.

County officials say the advisory is being issued due to ongoing winter weather concerns, including drifting snow and reduced road conditions, especially during the overnight hours. Highway crews have been working for several days to clear county roads and control drifting. As crews wrap up operations for the evening, officials warn that roads may drift over again overnight.

Plow trucks are expected to be back on county roads by 5 a.m. Wednesday to address drifting and remaining trouble spots.

Drivers are urged to use caution, slow down, and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve. The Orange Travel Watch will remain in effect overnight and will be re-evaluated later Wednesday.
