(JAY COUNTY) - Indiana State Police are assisting with the investigation of a deadly multi-vehicle crash that claimed three lives Tuesday afternoon in Jay County.
Troopers were called around 4 p.m. to the intersection of State Road 67 and County Road 550 East to assist the Jay County Sheriff's Department. Investigators say an eastbound semi on SR 67 failed to stop for a slowed semi ahead, swerved into the westbound lane, and collided head-on with a van.
Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Other victims suffered serious and life-threatening injuries, police said.
The investigation is being handled by the Indiana State Police Critical Incident Reconstruction Team, working with the ISP Commercial Vehicle Division, the Jay County Sheriff's Department, and the Jay County Coroner. Authorities said more information will be released as it becomes available.
