(ANGOLA) - A national Smithsonian traveling exhibit focused on democracy and civic engagement is coming to Angola in 2026, with the city selected as a host site for the Voices and Votes: Democracy in America tour.

The exhibit will be hosted at the Carnegie Public Library from March 28 through May 10, 2026, as part of the Smithsonian's 2026-27 Indiana tour. The host organization is the City of Angola.

Voices and Votes is a traveling exhibition developed by the Smithsonian Institution in partnership with Indiana Humanities and the IU Bloomington Arts & Humanities Council. The exhibit explores the history of American democracy, highlighting how citizens have shaped the nation through voting, civic participation, and public debate.

Organizers say the exhibit is designed to spark local conversation and engagement, blending national history with community-focused programming. Public events, discussions, and educational opportunities are expected to accompany the exhibit during its run in Angola.

Field trips and group visits will be welcomed during the exhibition period. Residents with questions, scheduling requests, or interest in educational programming are encouraged to contact Community Coordinator Allison Daglow for additional information.

The Angola stop is one of several Indiana communities selected for the statewide tour, which brings Smithsonian-caliber exhibitions to local libraries and cultural centers across the state.
