(COLDWATER) -- The Coldwater Community School District Board of Education has approved a resolution to place a $64 million high school bond proposal on the May 5 ballot.

The 1.5-mill bond request would fund major renovations and upgrades at Coldwater High School. The board took final action during a special meeting Monday night after receiving approval from the Michigan Department of Treasury on the ballot language.

School Board President Dr. Ed Lake read portions of the resolution during the meeting, while Superintendent Paul Flynn said the vote marked the final step required to move the proposal forward.

The special meeting was scheduled to meet a deadline to submit the resolution to the Branch County Clerk's Office by Tuesday in order to qualify for the May 5, 2026 election.

Voters in the district have rejected several previous bond proposals for the high school in recent years, including a $53 million request in 2022.
