(COLUMBUS, OHIO) -- Ohio law enforcement agencies are investigating a wave of bomb threats sent to schools and government buildings across the state, including the Ohio Statehouse.

Authorities say dozens of schools in central Ohio received emailed bomb threats early Monday. Police agencies responded and conducted safety checks, and most districts continued normal operations after determining the threats were not credible.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a bomb threat at the Ohio Statehouse and conducted a full search of the building and surrounding grounds. Troopers reported no explosive devices or hazardous materials were found.

The FBI's Cincinnati Field Office confirmed it is assisting local and state agencies and said the threats appear to be hoaxes. Federal officials emphasized that bomb threats are serious crimes that put public safety at risk.

In Clark County, Springfield City Schools dismissed students early as a precaution while authorities investigated reported threats. Governor Mike DeWine said county offices in Springfield were also targeted. Portions of downtown Springfield were temporarily closed but later reopened after police cleared the area.

State officials say there is no indication any of the threats were credible. Investigators continue working to identify the source of the emails and determine whether the incidents are connected.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the threats to contact law enforcement.
