(COLUMBUS) - Ohio ranks among the top 10 states where employees report the most dissatisfaction with their bosses, according to a nationwide analysis of workplace reviews.

The study by technology company Exasol examined Glassdoor ratings for companies with 500 or fewer employees across all 50 states, focusing on average five-star ratings given to senior management as of October 2024.

Ohio posted an average leadership rating of 3.229 stars, the seventh lowest in the nation. New York ranked last at 3.192 stars, followed by New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Nevada. Michigan was also among the bottom 10 states.

Researchers noted the differences between states were small -- often only fractions of a point -- but still reflect measurable variations in employee perception of management quality.

Exasol Chief Technology Officer Mathias Golombek said leadership effectiveness plays a significant role in employee morale, retention and overall company performance.

At the top of the rankings, Alaska had the highest senior management rating at 3.461 stars, followed by Wyoming, Utah, Massachusetts and Maine.

The findings were first highlighted in coverage by WCMH.
