(HUNTINGTON) - A South Korea-based manufacturer will build its first U.S. production facility in Huntington, bringing hundreds of high-paying jobs and strengthening Indiana's fast-growing energy storage industry.
Hanjung America, a subsidiary of Hanjung NCS, plans to construct a new manufacturing plant on 133 acres at Riverfork West Industrial Park. The facility will produce components for Energy Storage Systems used in electric vehicles and large-scale power applications.
Company officials say the project will create more than 300 jobs initially, with long-term employment expected to exceed 440 positions. Groundbreaking is planned for April, with operations slated to begin in June 2027. Average wages are expected to exceed the county average.
The plant will manufacture cooling systems and fire-suppression equipment for container-type battery storage units, supporting the supply chain for Stellantis and Samsung SDI's StarPlus Energy battery operations in Kokomo.
State leaders called the announcement a major economic win for the region, citing both job creation and Indiana's expanding role in advanced energy manufacturing.
Hanjung NCS, founded in South Korea in 1995, produces components for electric vehicles, HVAC systems and energy storage technology. The Huntington facility will mark the company's first manufacturing presence in North America, adding to existing operations in Asia and a U.S. customer service office in Michigan.
Indiana has committed performance-based incentives including tax credits and training grants tied to job creation and investment, with additional local support from Huntington County.
Local officials say the project is expected to boost economic growth and support rural revitalization while helping meet rising demand for safer, more efficient energy storage systems.
