No Arraignment Monday for Angola High School Teacher Accused in THC Edible Incident

(ANGOLA) - There was no arraignment Monday for the Angola High School teacher arrested after two students consumed THC edibles she allegedly left out in her classroom last week. Debra McGillem, 49, of Reading, posted $6,505 bail and was released from the Steuben County Jail on Saturday. McGillem was arrested Friday by Steuben County Sheriff's deputies and booked on multiple charges: Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent/child, Level 6 felony possession of a Schedule I-IV controlled substance, and Class C misdemeanor operating while intoxicated. She has been a language arts teacher at Angola High School since 2017.

Friday evening, MSD of Steuben County Superintendent Matt Widenhoefer emailed parents across the district, confirming that a staff member had been jailed and that the district had launched an internal investigation.
