(INDIANAPOLIS) - A new Indiana law exempts breastfeeding mothers from jury duty.

Governor Mike Braun signed Senate Bill 139 into law, allowing women who are breastfeeding a child under one year old to be excused from jury service.

Supporters of the measure included the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Good Trouble Coalition, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, and a private citizen who testified in favor of the bill.

The legislation passed the committee with a 13-0 vote.
