(AUBURN) - The DeKalb County Commissioners have approved additional funding to help cover animal care services connected to law enforcement investigations.

Commissioners voted to allocate up to $10,000 to Shadarobah, an agency that assists with housing and caring for animals involved in cases handled by the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Brady Thomas said the agency has already invoiced the county about $9,200 this year for services involving horses, dogs, cats and other animals.

Officials said the additional funding was available after Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control declined to move forward with a separate contract previously approved by the county.
