(MUNCIE) - Award-winning actor Hugh Jackman will deliver the commencement address for Ball State University's Class of 2026 during the school's spring ceremony next month.

The university says approximately 2,800 doctoral, specialist, master's and bachelor's degrees will be conferred during the university-wide commencement gathering.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, on the Quad, followed by individual college celebrations later in the day at Worthen Arena and Emens Auditorium.

During the main ceremony, Jackman will also receive an honorary Doctor of Arts degree in recognition of his contributions to film, theatre and the arts.

Ball State President Geoffrey S. Mearns called Jackman "a talented and versatile artist" and praised his advocacy for the arts and humanities.

Jackman has recent ties to Ball State and Muncie, including a campus visit last fall with theatre instructor Sutton Foster and a return trip in November to host a screening of his film Song Sung Blue.

The university says commencement details, parking and security information are available through Ball State's commencement website.
