(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana State Police made hundreds of traffic stops and responded to multiple incidents during Little 500 weekend in Bloomington.

Troopers say they conducted 430 traffic stops, issuing 198 citations and 368 warnings. Eight of those stops led to operating while intoxicated investigations and arrests.

Police also reported 29 criminal charges over the weekend, including eight felony charges. Investigations included trespassing at the Star Quarry on Dillman Road, crowd control at multiple locations in Monroe and Lawrence counties, a foot pursuit on North College Avenue, and a vehicle pursuit on I-69. Troopers also seized firearms.

Two serious crashes were investigated Saturday. One involved a motorcycle on State Road 45, where increased traffic tied to a large, unapproved event is believed to be a factor. The second crash on I-69 south of Martinsville resulted in one death and multiple serious injuries. Three victims were flown to Indianapolis hospitals. Both crashes remain under investigation.

Troopers also responded early Sunday morning to reports of gunfire near Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Street, assisting Bloomington Police with crowd control and securing the scene.

State police say the additional patrols were part of efforts to prevent crime, maintain order, and keep roads safe during the busy weekend.
