(BUTLER) - The City of Butler has lost its only full-service grocery store after more than 60 years in operation.
The Butler Food Center on Main Street recently closed, leaving the DeKalb County community without a full-service grocery option.
The Kaiser family operated the store for decades before selling the business in 2023. Court records show foreclosure proceedings were later filed involving the property and business entities connected to the store.
Butler Mayor Mike Hartman says the closure could leave the city considered a "food desert," especially impacting elderly and low-income residents.
