(WATERLOO) - A sectional championship will be on the line Monday night when Angola and DeKalb meet in the title game of the DeKalb Sectional.
Both teams advanced with semifinal victories Saturday at DeKalb High School.
Angola earned its spot in the championship game with a 6-4 win over Leo. The Hornets scored twice in the sixth inning and held off a late Leo rally to secure the victory.
The win continues a turnaround season for Angola. After posting eight wins in 2023 and 11 wins a year ago, the Hornets enter the sectional championship with a 23-6 record and already have a Northeast Corner Conference Tournament championship to their credit this spring.
DeKalb advanced by edging Bishop Dwenger 5-4 in the other semifinal game Saturday.
Monday's championship matchup will feature two teams that found ways to win close games to reach the title round.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at DeKalb High School, with the winner claiming the sectional championship.
