(COLDWATER) - Michigan drivers can expect to see more speed enforcement throughout July.

Michigan State Police, along with local and county law enforcement agencies across the state, are launching an intensified speed enforcement campaign during the peak summer travel season.

The campaign will use more marked patrols targeting drivers who exceed posted speed limits.

The effort is run by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning through the statewide "SAFER by 2030" initiative. The initiative uses federal traffic safety funding to reduce roadway fatalities.

The campaign follows data from the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute showing speed-involved crashes in Michigan increased by 4.2 percent in 2025.

By The Numbers

Speed-related crashes in 2025: 22,260

Single-vehicle crashes: 71 percent of speed-related crashes

Speed-related fatalities: 177 deaths

Fatality change: Down 15.7 percent

State safety officials say speeding remains a preventable threat, even as speed-related fatalities dropped last year.
