STEUBEN COUNTY (WLKI)- Eastbound lanes of the Indiana Toll Road were closed for several hours overnight after a crash involving four semi-trucks near a work zone.

Indiana State Police were called to mile marker 151.2 at about 10:39 p.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle crash that blocked all eastbound lanes.

Investigators said traffic had slowed or stopped as it entered an overnight work zone near the Eastpoint Toll Plaza. Police said a blue 2020 Volvo semi driven by Ruslan Piddaniuk, 39, of Parma, Ohio, did not slow for the traffic ahead and struck the slowed or stopped vehicles.

Three additional semi-trucks were involved in the crash. One of the semis caught fire, but its driver was able to get out safely.

Two drivers were taken to a local hospital with complaints of pain. Both were treated and released.

Eastbound traffic was diverted from the Toll Road at the Angola exit, Exit 144, while crews worked through the night to clear the scene. The eastbound lanes reopened at about 6:45 a.m. Monday.

Indiana State Police were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office, Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire and EMS, Indiana Toll Road Maintenance, and Bill's Professional Towing and Repair.
