ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- Residents have an opportunity to learn more and provide feedback on a proposed high-voltage transmission line project that could cross portions of northeast Indiana.
Indiana Michigan Power and AEP are considering routes for the Lulu-Sorenson Transmission Improvements Project. The proposal would add about 75 miles of 765-kilovolt transmission line between the Sorenson Substation in Huntington County and an area near the Indiana-Michigan state line.
The project is part of a regional plan intended to strengthen the power grid and increase electric capacity, according to the company. Proposed structures could stand about 175 feet tall, with a right-of-way estimated between 180 and 200 feet wide.
Some residents and landowners have raised concerns about possible effects on private property, farmland, trees and wildlife. A petition has also been circulated urging the company to consider routes that minimize impacts on property owners.
An open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Steuben Event Center, 100 Lane 101B Crooked Lake in Angola. Company representatives will be available to discuss route options and receive public feedback.
