ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- A Battle Creek woman is facing multiple drug-related charges after Steuben County deputies found her lying under a tarp on top of her vehicle, according to court documents.
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office was called to County Road 700, west of Old 27, shortly before sunrise over the weekend after a commuter reported seeing a woman acting strangely in a parking lot.
Deputies identified the woman as 40-year-old Chelsea K. Francis. Investigators say Francis told deputies she had been driving home to Battle Creek from Tekonsha, took a wrong turn and ended up in Indiana.
Francis allegedly told deputies her vehicle became stuck in a culvert and that she had locked her keys inside.
Court documents say Francis appeared erratic, prompting deputies to conduct field sobriety tests. Investigators say she admitted to recently using methamphetamine and possessing new needles.
Deputies later found needles in a backpack on the front seat of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. Francis was taken into custody without further incident.
She remains held in the Steuben County Jail on a $10,000 bond. If convicted, she could face up to two-and-a-half years in prison.
